Today is your day. And this year, you deserve extra kudos for all that you do to make your credit union great, and your members' lives better.
As we find ourselves in the midst of a truly scary economic environment, my appreciation for credit unions, and the professionals who make them run, has never been higher. Working at a credit union, furthering the credit union movement, is not the sexiest job in the world. There are no paparazzi, no crowds of reporters following your every move. Sure, every now and then, a thoughtful member will write you a thank-you note, but most do not, even when you go out of your way for them. And then there are the complainers who just don't have a grasp of the reality of running a financial institution.
So I'd like to raise a toast, and celebrate the fact that now, more than ever, "slow and steady" is the new sexy. The race between the tortoise and the hare has been running for millennia, and the tortoise always wins. Credit unions didn't get us into the current economic mess, and there's never been a better time to champion the credit union movement, everything we stand for, to your current members as well as potential new members. Our version of slow and steady is winning the race. We are a rock of stability and sanity in a sea of greed and shady business practices.
This is your day, and a day of celebration for you has never been more deserved.
What's on your mind on this special day?
