Once again, it’s time to reflect on another year past, so I took a moment to collect data on blog traffic in 2018, plus look at interesting themes and trends.

Here are our three most-read posts and my thoughts about them:

  1. 5 Ways to Build a Social Media Following
  2. Military Lending Act Compliance Is Not Optional
  3. 7 Social Media Do’s and Don’ts

It’s not surprising that topics so hot as social media and compliance garnered the top three spots. Numbers 1 and 3 were by Alyssa Fedorovich, social media specialist with CUES Supplier member PSCU, Tampa, Florida. Read more from her in “Social Media: Why Posting Is Not Enough.” The author of No. 2 was Veronica Madsen, CEO of Estee Compliance LCC, Royal Oak, Michigan, who contributed several other posts and articles this year about key regulatory issues.

As I scanned over all the CUES blogs from 2018, three interesting things caught my eye:

  • Formal talent development is something credit unions must do to stay competitive. Check out new monthly “Purposeful Talent Development” column, which my esteemed colleague, Jennifer Stangl, CUES director of professional development, launched in March. Also read about the value of a tool like CUES Learning Portal in this post with a great image of a fresh salad. And finally, get great perspective on the war to develop talent (as part of the war for talent) by Greg Longster, partner in Leaders International Executive Search, Vancouver, British, Columbia, CUES’ strategic provider of executive recruiting services.
  • How some of the best business lessons come from just living life. Read the reflections of CUES VP/Strategic Partnerships and Solutions Karin Sand, CIE, on her 4,317-mile, 12-state road trip with her best friend and their five daughters (aged 14, 12, 11, 10 and 8) in “Get Buy-in at the Beginning.” That best friend from the road trip—CUES Supplier Sales Manager Kari Sweeney—wrote “The Good of Amazon Go? It’s Seamless” based on her real-life trip to one of these ground-breaking stores in Seattle.
  • That our readers are truly thought leaders. Check out “Credit Unions Lack Growth Gene” by Mike Higgins, a partner in Mike Higgins & Associates Inc., Prairie Village, Kansas, written in response to our March 2018 print magazine cover story about growth. And don’t miss “Don’t Keep the Credit Union Secret” by CUES member Tansley Stearns, CME, CSE, chief people & strategy officer for $2.4 billion Canvas Credit Union, Lone Tree, Colorado, written in response to this article in The New York Times.

Thanks for reading! I’m looking forward to “seeing” you in the new year. (Subscribe to get each blog post delivered to your inbox.)
