CUES Podcast Episode 13 has helpful tips for board members and management.

“There’s not a single financial institution that isn’t dealing with fraud on a daily basis.”

This warning comes from Jim Stickley, CEO of Stickley on Security. Last month at CUES’ Directors Conference, he chatted about cybersecurity with CUES’ Professional Development Manager James Lenz for CUES Podcast Episode 13: Cybersecurity.

What does Stickley think is the biggest security threat to credits? Email. Phishing attacks, through which someone receives an email that appears to be from a trusted source but instead includes a compromised attachment or link, are on the rise. And unfortunately, criminals are getting more sophisticated and personalizing their attacks. Now they send emails that look like they came from your mom, from a co-worker or even your boss. Once you open the attachment or click the link, your computer is compromised. The risk is preventable, but it requires good education and strong policies, Stickley says. He recommends reviewing the FFIEC Cybersecurity Assessment and more in the podcast.
